Cortisol is your primary stress hormone. Released by the adrenal glands in response to perceived threat, it was designed to save your life in short bursts — flood the bloodstream with glucose, suppress non-essential systems, and get you moving. The problem is that modern life keeps the signal on. Traffic, deadlines, bad sleep, blood sugar swings — they all look the same to your adrenals. Chronically elevated cortisol is now one of the most underdiagnosed drivers of metabolic dysfunction in type 2 diabetics.

Cortisol is not inherently bad. At peak levels in the early morning, it governs your circadian rhythm, mobilizes energy, and regulates inflammation. 5. Reduce news and screen exposure in the first and last hour of the day. The stress response does not distinguish between a real threat and a simulated one.
